Keep moving forward
Dr Tony Ko is to embark on a new chapter in his life following the completion of his contract as Hospital Authority (HA) Chief Executive at the end of July. After a global search of candidates and thorough deliberation by the Selection Board appointed by the HA Board, the then Under Secretary for Health Dr Libby Lee is recommended to succeed as Chief Executive of HA.
Henry Fan who is reappointed as HA Chairman welcomed Dr Lee’s appointment, saying, “Dr Lee has extensive experience in clinical service and in the field of management. I believe her vision for public healthcare services in Hong Kong will help drive the sustainable development of the HA and equip it to cope with the challenges ahead. A reform of public healthcare fees and charges will be implemented in January next year, and I look forward to working with Dr Lee again in leading the HA forward.” Dr Ko also congratulated Dr Lee on her appointment to the new position. He believes that with Dr Lee’s visionary perspective on public health policy and public healthcare services, she will certainly continue to drive the continuous development of HA and benefit patients.
Fan also expressed his gratitude to Dr Ko for his contribution over more than 30 years with the HA. “Dr Ko has dedicated himself to public healthcare services, especially during the COVID-19 epidemic when he led HA colleagues in fighting the virus and getting through a tough time together,” he said. “Under his leadership, HA services quickly resumed to normal following the epidemic, and the attrition rate became stable.”
