HA validated for the highest level at HIMSS EMRAM

HIMSS team went to hospitals for on-site assessment last year. All 43 public hospitals and institutions under Hospital Authority (HA) have achieved the highest level Stage 7 of Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) earlier, issued by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). It is the first time HIMSS has conferred EMRAM Stage 7 status upon a large cohort of hospitals within a single institution, marking an important chapter in the development of electronic medical record of HA.

HIMSS is a non-profit global healthcare information and technology advisor, and the only developer of internationally accepted digital health maturity models. EMRAM is a framework designed to measure the maturity of the electronic medical record workflows in hospital settings. HA was awarded Stage 6 in 2021.

HA received the highest level Stage 7 of Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model. The Clinical Management System (CMS) has played a vital role in reaching Stage 7. HA started to develop CMS in the 1990s to improve the operation efficiency of clinical services and patient safety by adding new modules from time to time. CMS contains eleven million patient records which supports the daily operation for 70,000 staff.

Dr Cheung Ngai-tseung, Head of Information Technology and Health Informatics (IT&HI) says the award reflects HA’s digital maturity. “It recognises the joint efforts by IT&HI and frontline healthcare workers. More new features will be added to HA mobile app ‘HA Go’ to engage the public.”
