Get a flu shot to prevent virus invasion

The Seasonal Influenza Vaccination (SIV) Programme for HA Staff 2024/25 has commenced from 19 September. Over 54,700 staff were vaccinated in 2023/24, marking an increase of 38% from 2022/23. This year, we encourage colleagues to arrange their vaccinations as early as possible so as to protect themselves and others. You may make reference to the following information:

“I got the flu shot last year, so I don’t need it this year!”

Seasonal influenza virus strains may change from time to time, therefore, the composition of influenza vaccine will be updated every year in accordance with the circulating strains to enhance protection. The immunity built from the vaccination diminishes over time, and after one year, it may decrease to a level that will no longer provide protection. Hence, it is necessary to get vaccinated annually.

“Only consider to get a flu shot amid the influenza season!”

It takes about two weeks after vaccination for the body to develop antibodies to prevent influenza virus infection. To ensure adequate protection during the influenza season, it is advised to get vaccinated early.
