Why do I still need to get a flu jab after COVID-19 vaccination?

The coronavirus and influenza virus are two different types of viruses. There are greater risks for severe conditions or even death if one is infected with both viruses at the same time. Since SIV can lower the risks and shorten the length of stay in hospital, getting both COVID-19 vaccination and SIV are equally important.

I am too healthy to receive SIV!

Given that severe cases of influenza can occur even in healthy persons and SIV is safe and effective, all members of the public aged six months or above, except those with known contraindications, should receive SIV for protection.

I am too weak to receive SIV!

Unless having a history of severe allergic reaction to any vaccine component or a previous dose of any influenza vaccine, all members of the public aged six months or above are suitable to have SIV. If you are unwell on the day of vaccination, you can get vaccinated after a full recovery.

I have egg allergy, so I am unfit for SIV!

Influenza vaccine contains ovalbumin (an egg protein), but the vaccine manufacturing process involves repeated purification and the ovalbumin content is very low. Even people who are allergic to eggs are generally safe to receive vaccination.
