Enhancement in nursing career ladder

In addition to extending employment beyond the retirement age up to 65, the HA also embarks on the enhancement of nursing grade career structure by creating a new rank of Associate Nurse Consultant (ANC), which shares the same rank and pay scale with Ward Manager (WM). ANCs are mainly responsible for supporting frontline clinical care duties. Apart from the existing clinical management stream, the new rank provides an alternative promotion pathway for nurses with an aspiration for career development in the clinical stream. Over 140 ANCs will be recruited in 2022 in phases.

Expected results

  • Encourage continuing education in nursing profession, enhance professional development and uphold patient services
  • Allow APNs more flexibility in their promotion pathway by choosing management or clinical stream
  • Retain experienced nurses to mitigate staff shortage and provide training for young nurses
