Technology is a breath of fresh air for toilets

Smart technology isn’t just a breath of fresh air in terms of
reducing waiting times and paperwork: it makes visiting the toilet at hospital a more
pleasant experience as well. The United Christian Hospital (UCH) has introduced the
smart toilet to help improve the cleanliness and hygiene of the toilets at SOPCs. “The
toilets are heavily used and require huge manpower and resources for their management
and cleaning – and even then there will be bad smells from time to time,” explains
Terence Cham, Cluster General Manager of Administration Services at Kowloon East
Cluster. “We have therefore created a smart toilet with an air-monitoring system to
monitor the temperature, humidity, odour, and suspended particles in the toilets to
ensure a clean and dry environment. We also use the e-management system to analyse the
usage rate, use of consumables, and the performance of cleaning services at different
timeslots to help us better plan for manpower and cleaning schedules.”
