No one left behind for vaccination
In face of the relentless fight of the COVID-19 virus, which we once felt almost helpless, the arrival
of vaccines brings back hope for us all. Today, healthcare workers, scientists, and public health
experts around the world are racing against time to vaccinate as many people as possible to build herd
immunity.
Hong Kong launched its vaccination programme in February, offering the Sinovac and BioNTech vaccines to the public. Healthcare workers, who are in the frontlines of the pandemic fight, were given the priority to get vaccinated. Since then, we have implemented a series of measures to encourage all of our colleagues to get the jab to protect themselves, safeguard patients, and reduce the risk of nosocomial infection.
Our seven clusters have also worked closely with Government departments to set up Community Vaccination Centres for members of the public, outreach teams have provided vaccinations to elderly people at nursing homes, and clinical experts from different specialties have addressed people’s concerns about the vaccines through radio programmes. Our general outpatient clinics are also providing pre-vaccination assessments for follow-up patients to ease their concerns.
With these concerted efforts, we hope everyone can get vaccinated as soon as possible, so that Hong Kong can get through the COVID-19 pandemic and our normal lives can be restored.
