Introduction
The Dietetic Department is currently composed of a full-time dietitian and a part-time dietitian, providing dietetic service. Residents, who are diagnosed to require dietetic service through the HA registered doctors, will be transferred to CPH for diet therapy. Service includes:
- Diet Therapy
- Nutrition Screening
- Nutrition Education
- Dietetic Research
Scope of Services
Diet Therapy
Diet Therapy helps to control or promote recovery from illness through the adjustment of dietary intake. The application of diet therapy include diabetes, kidney disease, lung disease, cancer disease, heart disease, stroke, gastro intestinal disease, hyperlipidemia, gout, obesity, malnutrition, nutrition for recovery and etc.
Outpatient dietetic service
Dietitians assess patient's nutrition status and provide nutrition counseling and education to patients and patient's carers.
In-patient diet advice
Dietitians provide nutrition assessment, education and diet prescription for patients. The diet prescription includes diet therapy, Ryle's tube feeding and etc. Based on patient's individual need, dietitians can provide tailor-made therapeutic diet and nutrition support. Upon patient's disease, dietitians will also provide home diet counseling and education to patient and patient's carer.
Nutrition Screening
Patient's nutrition status can be evaluated by nutrition screening. The result of nutrition screening provides valuable information for nutrition support. Thus, the promotion of nutrition screening from dietetic department helps to minimise the complication from nutrition-related disease.
Nutrition Education
The Dietetic Department conducts all kinds of nutrition talks and exhibitions of nutrition. The aim is to let patients, as well as citizens, carers and health care workers, know about the concept of diet therapy and the nutritional information. It includes weight management, controlling diet, hyperlipidemia, diabetes etc.
Dietetic Research
The Dietetic Department carries out researches in dietetic, in turns of broaden the knowledge and applications in dietetics. Hence, dietitians will be able to deliver the evidence-based clinical nutrition guidance and advice to the patients.
