Hospital Volunteer Service

Objective:

Since the merger of the voluntary groups of Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital and Tai Po Hospital, it facilitates the communication of the voluntary service of the 2 hospitals. According to the mission of Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital and Tai Po Hospital, our voluntary service objectives are as follow:

1. To enhance the communication and connection among the volunteers and staffs of the departments and make good use of the volunteer’s talents to assist department's operation and provide efficient & high quality patients services
2. To promote volunteerism and the image of health (include: Psychosocial spiritual aspect)
3. To develop the spirit of "help and self-help"
4. To provide patients timely support and coordination during hospitalization and promote the quality of life of patients and their families.
5. To help the sick and the needed to reintegrate into society and encourage patients to make a good use of the community resource in order to assist them building up the social support netw
6. To strengthen the cooperation with community agencies and respond the needs of community actively

Scope of Service:

1. Patients Concern and Support Services:
   • Visit Services( includes Ward Visit, Home Visit)
   • Festival Concern
   • Community Agency Visit
   • Health Check Service
   • Direction Enquiry

2. Ward/ Department Support Services
   • Assisting Ward/Department to organize and provide services
   • Voluntary Tutor (e.g. Tai Chi / handicrafts tutor)
   • Clerical Work/ Filing
   • Library Services
   • Rehab Shop Operation
   • Conducting survey
   
   
3. Community Services
   • Visit and concern the elderly live in the community, old district and rural area
   • Provide health check and home safety assessment for the elderly live in the community
   • Health Education Promotion
   • Conduct community survey
   
   

Target of Volunteer

1. Anyone aged 15 or above is eligible to become a volunteer, except that volunteers assisting in isolation areas must be 18 or older.
2. Parent permission is required for volunteer applicants who are below 18.
3. Prior to placement, volunteers must attend a face-to-face interview / briefing to match them with the appropriate volunteer opportunities and assess their training needs. This arrangement also gives a chance for hospitals to align Hospital's mission and values, the roles and responsibilities of the volunteer, as well as the volunteer's interests, motivations, and needs.
