Shift Up & Down on Bed

  1. Bend your unoperated leg.
  2. Hold on the monkey pole.
  3. Lift up your body using both arms and unoperated leg.
  4. Shift your body upwards or downwards.
Moving Sidewards on Bed

Moving Sidewards on Bed

  1. Bend your unoperated leg.
  2. Lift your buttock.
  3. Shift your body sidewards.
Turning on Bed

Turning on Bed

  1. Bend your unoperated leg.
  2. Hold on the bed side rail.
  3. Pull the bar and lift your buttock to turn.
From Lying to Sitting

From Lying to Sitting

  1. Patient should get out of bed on unoperated side if possible.
  2. Bend your unoperated leg.
  3. Pull up into sitting using both arms.
  4. Turn your body facing the floor.
  5. Slowly place your operated leg on the floor.

Remarks: For patient with hip replacement procedure, please lean backwards when sitting up to avoid bending the hip joint over 90 degrees.


From Lying to Sitting

From Sitting to Standing

  1. Sit at the edge of your chair/bed and place your operated leg slightly in front.
  2. Hold on the walking frame with one hand and hold on your chair/bed with another hand.
  3. To stand up, press the aid and chair/bed and shift your centre of gravity forwards.

Remarks: For patient with hip replacement procedure, please slightly lean backwards when standing up to avoid bending the hip joint over 90 degrees.

Hip Replacement: Precautions

To avoid bending the hip joint over 90 degrees, patient should:

  1. Avoid crossing your leg.
  2. Avoid sitting on low stool.
  3. If you want to pick things up from the floor, please use a grabber.
