In the days leading up to your surgery, you will need to pay extra attention to your skin health, seek medical advice promptly in case of abnormal conditions like fungal infection, abscess or ulcer.

To avoid delaying the operation, a patient should seek professional advice if you experience conditions like dental caries, periodontitis, or loose teeth.




Quit smoking and alcohol. Review Medications.

Quitting Smoking and Alcohol Improves Blood Circulation and Wound Healing

Withhold some special drugs prior to surgery, which include but are not limited to: anticoagulants, immunosuppressants, hypoglycaemic agents, as instructed by anaesthetist/surgeon.




Presenting Respiratory Symptoms within 1 month before Operation.

If you experience symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection like cold or flu and do not recover during the month before operation, please seek medical advice and inform arthroplasty nurse of rescheduling the date of operation.

In the evening before the day of operation, please take a shower and wash your hair. Fast after midnight before operation, take usual medications (excluding medications withheld) with sips of water.

On admission, please bring along your identification card and personal necessities including thermos, slip-resistant slippers, loose short pants and walking frame.

Before going to the operation theatre, the nurse will verify the patient's identity while the surgeon will mark the operating limb with an arrow for identification.

Patient should take off clothing and underwear, put on operation cap, gown and stocking and remove all removable items including dentures, contact lenses, watch and accessories.
