Introduction

The Department of Pharmacy of Queen Mary Hospital (QMH) provides quality, patient-centred and multi-faceted pharmaceutical care to people living in Hong Kong West and other regions. Queen Mary Hospital is a 1455-bed tertiary-quaternary hospital founded in 1937. Affiliated with the University of Hong Kong, the Department of Pharmacy provides professional development and education to medical, nursing and pharmaceutical staff, students and also residents.

The Department provides 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week pharmaceutical care to all in-patients, out-patients (both public and private), including discharged patients, staff, civil servants and follow-up patients from S1 Specialist Clinics and Accident & Emergency Department. The Department is providing pharmaceutical care to the largest number of approximately 30,000 patients in out-patient setting and 8,000 in-patients per month. In addition to medication management, the Department is clinically oriented which provides a wide variety of clinical pharmacy services. Queen Mary Hospital was also accredited with an "Excellence" Achievement on medication safety by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) in 2010.

The Department of Pharmacy at Queen Mary Hospital has been the pioneering site for many of Hospital Authority's initiatives including: Medication Incident Reporting Programme, Drug Information Kiosk, 24-hour Pharmaceutical Service, Medication Reconciliation Service, Clinical Trial Service and Clinical Pharmacist Service.
