Our Service

Clinical Immunology deals with disorders of the immune system, such as autoimmunity, allergy, immunodeficiency and neoplasia of cells and organs of the immune system.

The Clinical Immunology Laboratory was first established at Queen Mary Hospital in 1975. It was then part of the Hospital Pathology Services of the Department of Pathology, The University of Hong Kong. In addition to providing laboratory services, it actively participated in medical training and research. Since the take over by the Hospital Authority, Clinical Immunology became a division under the Department of Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry, Queen Mary Hospital.

Clinical Immunology provides comprehensive, tertiary referral laboratory services in serology and cell function. The Serology laboratory detects and quantitates autoantibodies, immunoglobulins, complement components, acute phase proteins, tumor markers, paraproteins and myeloma proteins. The Cell Function laboratory quantitates lymphocytes subsets and investigates functional aspects of T-, B and NK-lymphocytes and phagocytic cells.
