Requesting of Immunology tests can be done either by using request form or using the Generic Clinical Request for Laboratory Request System (GCR-LRS).

Request form

The orange Clinical Immunology request form shows the range of tests currently available. Changes to the test menu appear from time to time as new tests are introduced or old tests replaced by more sensitive or more appropriate assays. Changes are always explained by widely circulated E-mails.

Doctors requesting tests must always write clearly on the request form and include relevant clinical information. Tests will not be done if they are not justified according to the clinical information supplied. If there is any doubt about the use or interpretation of immunological tests, Immunologists should be consulted.

GCR-LRS

Most Serology tests are available in the system, for those tests not found, use the request form for ordering. For details on how-to use the GCR-LRS, refer to the manual in the ward.

Reporting results

Test results are entered into the ECPath Laboratory Information System and can be accessed by authorized staff. Hard copy reports (orange border) are also provided and distributed to the wards, outside hospitals or private practitioners. Many of the reports show previous test results for comparison, and appropriate reference ranges are given. Comments on the findings by senior immunologists are provided where clarification is necessary.
