Welcome Note

Under the leadership of the General Manager (Nursing), and with the support of the Senior Nursing Officers and the Nursing Officers, the Central Nursing Department is responsible for providing central nursing administration and professional nursing support services. When the Hospital was inaugurated in 1937, the then Matron (later known as Chief Nursing Officer) was responsible for nursing administration in the Hospital with professional development and formulation of nursing policy under the directorship of Medical and Health Department. After the take-over of the management of the Hospital by the Hospital Authority in 1992, the General Manager (Nursing) of the Central Nursing Department succeeded the responsibilities for developing and formulating nursing policies, professional standards and development in addition to staff recruitment. Furthermore, the Department has to assume the management of hospital-related nursing services such as Human Resource Management, Clinical Audit, Occupational Safety Health & Environment, Communication & Complaint Management, Community Nursing, Organ Transplant Coordination, Central Sterile Supply, Quality & Infection Control, Specialty & General Outpatient Clinics and Staff Quarters.

  To identify the needs of the community on nursing services in order to meet their requirements with obtainable resources.
  To provide an environment conducive to attracting, motivating and retaining well-qualified staff.
  To provide training and development opportunities to all nursing staff in an equity manner in alignment with the hospital objective and society needs.
  To co-ordinate, facilitate and monitor the development of nursing professional practice in order that an effective and efficient quality patient care is delivered.
  To project to the public an image of excellence, expertise and empathy.
  To liaise and collaborate with other related stakeholders to provide the greatest benefit to the community.
