Accident & Emergency Department

Department profile

The Accident and Emergency Department (A&E) operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition to providing prompt and expert emergency life support to critically ill patients, it also provides emergency service to patients with acute and urgent conditions and plays an important gate-keeping role for the hospital.

Our A&E is also a trauma referral centre serving the New Territories East Cluster. A multidisciplinary trauma team approach with a defined trauma call activation system ensures prompt and effective management of all victims suffering from major trauma.

Our ultimate goal is to improve the quality of medical care through better diagnosis of patients' problems, assessment and treatment, while reducing unnecessary admissions and healthcare costs.

Inpatient ward

Emergency Medicine Ward, 2/F, Main Clinical Block & Trauma Centre

The Emergency Medicine Ward is ancillary to the A&E. It provides an extension to the initial patient management in the A&E and serves as a venue for evaluating and stabilizing a patient, which gives greater flexibility to make an accurate decision to either admit or discharge the patient.
