Prosthetic
and Orthotic Department
| Department
Head : |
Mr
Timmy Koo |
The
Prosthetic & Orthotic Department was established in 1985 to
provide comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic treatment to in-patients
of MMRC and other hospitals in Hong Kong Island.
Prosthetic treatment
is the application of substitutes for amputated parts, to restore
their functions and cosmesis, and to aid balance and development.
Orthotic treatment is
the application of dynamic and static splints, braces and slings
directly and externally to the patient. Its aims are to support,
correct or compensate for a skeletal deformity, fracture or weakness
regardless of the cause.
The Prosthetic &
Orthotic Department will continue to provide quality services for
our patient and to improve their quality of life.
With
the implementation of the integration plan of the Hong Kong West
Cluster for Prosthetic & Orthotic service in 2001-2002, our
department will become an amputee centre and also laboratory will
be developed as a central fabrication unit to serve all the satellite
centres in Hong Kong Western Cluster.
