Physiotherapy Department

Establishment
The Physiotherapy Department has a total of 18 physiotherapists and 7 artisans to look after 150 patients in the Centre of which 130 are in-patients and 20 are day-patients.

Layout
The Physiotherapy Department occupies a floor area of about 2000 meter square. It consists of a treatment room, a neurological room, a gymnasium, and a hydrotherapy room.

The treatment room is mainly for individual exercise training and electrotherapeutic treatment.

The neurological room provides a nice and quiet treatment area for patients with brain impairment after suffering from stroke, head injury, or brain tumour.

The gymnasium is a standard sized gymnasium where wheelchair basketball game can take place. Group exercise and recreational games are carried out in this area.

The hydrotherapy room consisted of a 25 meter teaching pool and a treatment pool. The water temperature is kept at 34 degrees Celsius so as to improve circulation, induce relaxation. The pool also provides different depth of water for exercises of different difficulties.

Structure
The Physiotherapy Department is divided into different units for optimal function including Amputee, Back and Neck Care, Chronic Arthritis, Day Patient, Neurological, Spinal Cord Injury, and Sports Injury. Each unit is headed by a Physiotherapist I who supervises two to three Physiotherapist II. There is also a Clinical Education Unit headed by a Senior Physiotherapist to take care of five to six Physiotherapy students from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Scope of Services:
To assess and then design a tailor made rehabilitation programme for each individual patient with other rehabilitation team members so as to maximize their physical potential and regain functional independency in the shortest possible time. It consists of mobilization and strengthening exercise, electrical treatment, hydrotherapy, balance training, manual therapy and recreational games.
