Bladder
Training Programme
This
programme is to train spinal cord injured patients who have lost
normal bladder function. Nurses will educate patients to use Clean
Intermittent Self Catheterisation (CISC) or educate patients' relatives
to learn Intermittent Catheterisation (IMC) to help the patients
to empty their bladders regularly. Before teaching CISC / IMC, nurses
will also explain to the patients and their relatives the urinary
system, normal bladder function and causes of bladder malfunction.
The aims of this programme are to eliminate urine regularly, in
addition to prevent urinary tract infection, cystitis and incontinence.
We will refer the patients to urologist if necessary. There are
other bladder training programmes for stress incontinence, urge
incontinence and functional incontinence. Tailor made programme
will be set accordingly.
