Principles
of Rehabilitation Nursing:
| 1. |
To
restore health of patients through intensive treatment given
by various rehabilitation personnel (including doctors, nurses
and allied health professionals) through interdisciplinary
approach and cooperation of patients and family. |
| 2. |
To
encourage patients to participate in rehabilitation programme
so as to facilitate their recovery. |
| 3. |
To
assist disabled persons in developing remaining physical, psychological,
cognitive functions and social skills so that they may be more
independent, may live in personally satisfying environments,
and may maintain meaningful social interactions. |
| 4. |
To
prepare patients for useful, productive and happy living in
community. |
To
fulfil the Principle One of Rehabilitation Nursing, our hospital
is using an interdisciplinary team approach. The team includes doctors,
nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietician, speech
therapists, clinical psychologist, medical social workers and orthotists.
Moreover, other than the case doctor, various specialists will be
involved to help to restore the health of patients e.g. rehabilitation
consultant, urologist, colorectal surgeon and geriatrician etc..
Based on the spirit of interdisciplinary team approach, there are
many activities e.g. Grand outing, seasonal parties and conferences
e.g.
case
conference
will be held together
by different team members.
To
fulfil the Principle Two, Three and Four, our nursing staff had
developed many education programs, training programs and activities
to facilitate the patients to re-integrate into the community
smoothly and easily. Such as
bowel
training programme
bladder
training programme
medication
education programme
behavioural
modification therapy
 skin
care
wound
care
health
education
birthday
party and weekend movie show
Encourage patients
to have home leave during weekend is another special feature in
MMRC. This is to prepare patients to adapt to their future life
after discharge.
